Literacy Milestones for Term 5

Year 3 Year 4

Use the present perfect form of verbs instead of the simple past.

Draft and write narratives, creating settings, character and plot.

Understand the vocabulary: clause and subordinate clause.

Use expanded noun phrases for description and specification.

Use capital letters for people, places, days of the week and the personal pronoun ‘I’. 


Use fronted adverbials followed by a comma.

Expand noun phrases further with adjectives and prepositional phrases.

Draft and write in narratives, creating settings, character and plot with consideration for the audience and purpose.

Impact of technology - simulations

Each lesson will also begin with an e-safety themed question that will form a short 5- minute discussion with the children or it will form the focus of the lesson, along with the skills set above. 

Children will be focusing on understanding the benefits of using simulations, comparing simulations and understanding how they can be used for testing and analysis.
